Who we are

protontherapy.ca is operated by Maple Med Global (MMG Medical Tourism Inc., Canada corporation number 1742988-6; see maplemedglobal.ca). We are a Toronto-based medical travel coordination company. We help Canadians reach proton therapy abroad, a treatment not yet available in Canada. We stay involved through follow-up after treatment. We are an independent company; not a hospital, a clinic, or a government body. We provide no medical care. Our work is coordination. We bring the right information together and organise your file. We run the process on your behalf and stay beside you after you return.

Our partner centres

We have partner proton therapy centres in Europe and in Asia. All of them accept a wide range of diagnoses. Some have been operating for more than a decade. One works within a hospital group of more than 50 hospitals. Another is a comprehensive cancer centre offering surgery and chemotherapy under the same roof. Which centres receive your reports is something we decide together. We take your country preference into account where you have one.

Centres in the United States

We can also send your file to proton therapy centres in the United States and obtain a treatment plan and a written quote. Our relationships with these centres are good, and they attend to our patients with priority. The one difference is this: unlike centres in other countries, centres in the United States do not run commercial agreements with coordination companies; that is the established practice there. For that reason, if you choose treatment at a US centre, a separate coordination fee applies for our service.

Why this service is free to you

This site and the eligibility assessment we provide are free for our patients. We charge you nothing for sending your reports to centres or obtaining treatment plans and written quotes. We also charge nothing for arranging calls with centre specialists or coordinating your treatment.

Our income comes from institutional agreements with treatment centres. When one of our patients is treated at a partner centre, the centre pays us a service fee. This fee is not added to the treatment price you receive.

The one exception is the United States, as above; we state that fee clearly and in writing before any work begins.

Our information pages are prepared independently of these commercial relationships. Every page relies only on what official bodies, peer-reviewed research, and the treatment centres themselves have published. Each page lists its sources with dates.

How we work

To begin, you share your most recent reports with us, through the form or by email. We send your reports to proton therapy centres.

The centre’s specialist medical team assesses your file in full. If your case is suitable, they send us a possible treatment plan together with the cost. If it is not, they tell us why. We pass every answer to you the moment it reaches us. Every step after that is your decision.

Whenever you need it, we arrange a phone or online consultation with the centre’s specialists. You can put your questions directly to the team that would treat you. When you decide to go, we organise the operational side on your behalf, with your approval at every step. That covers your treatment appointments, your payment process, your accommodation, and your flights. We support you throughout treatment in whatever you need. When you return, we follow your check-up appointments and your recovery.

Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), your information is shared only with your written consent.

What we do not do

  • We do not give medical advice. Whether proton therapy is right for you is a decision for your treating physicians.
  • We do not make funding decisions. Your provincial or territorial plan does.
